VFD fault messages narrow the investigation, but they do not identify the final repair by themselves. Record the code, operating state, load, speed, and recent changes before resetting. Always verify manufacturer and firmware-specific meanings.

Overload and stall

Check motor nameplate data, load condition, acceleration, current limit, cooling, mechanical binding, and duty cycle. A process that has gradually become harder to move may create a drive fault that appears to be electrical.

Overvoltage and undervoltage

Undervoltage points toward supply, disconnect, fuses, transformer loading, or power quality. Overvoltage may relate to high line voltage, regeneration, or deceleration settings. Qualified personnel should perform electrical measurements.

Overcurrent and ground fault

Investigate motor leads, insulation, cable damage, moisture, short circuits, motor condition, and acceleration behavior. Do not repeatedly reset a fault without finding the condition that creates it.

Communication loss

Check adapter status, IP addressing, switch and cable condition, controller connection, inhibit state, and command/reference mapping. For PowerFlex 525 codes, see PowerFlex 525 fault codes.

Prevention

Maintain motor data, drive backups, parameter records, cabinet cooling, spare parts, and clear fault history. TechControl provides VFD programming and industrial troubleshooting.
